A clear night sky over the water, with a steady NW wind and steady pressure. Expect most activity at Axe Lake around the shaded margin through bright spells. One clear peak today: the night. Work fewer spots, but work them properly. Autumn rewards covering water while the fish roam.

Axe Lake is a Sudbury water, Ontario side. Height above sea level is 349 metres. Small at around 3 hectares: two anglers spread out cover most of it. Our Sudbury list holds plenty of bigger water. Chapleau lies 77 km from the water. The big place round here is Greater Sudbury, 219 km distant. The nearest edge is a long way off, so local rules apply throughout.
Depth here is unknown, so count the lead down before committing. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. Records held for Sudbury cover smallmouth bass, northern pike, yellow perch and Iowa darter. Take it as the county picture rather than a promise for this water. On Axe Lake that means starting tight and working out.
Expect July near 17°C and January near -17°C on the long-run figures. Everything is compressed into the middle of the year. The lid arrives early and lasts until roughly late April. The season between ice runs from about late April to mid November. The first weeks of open water and the last are the ones to plan for. The season on Axe Lake rarely departs from it.
Whether the bank is open is not something our records settle. The nearest car park we can see is 650 m out, so expect a walk with your gear. You can camp 760 m off, which suits an early start. A picnic spot sits 740 m from the bank. Toilets show in mapping about 670 m away. Check whether a boat is allowed before you tow one. A polite question at the farm gate opens more banks than anything else. For a change of water, Canyon Lake is 0.6 km distant. What applies at Axe Lake may have changed since it was mapped.
