Showers crossing the water today, with an easy breeze from the SE and no real change in pressure. Atikamik Lake should fish best around the seam between weed and open water today. The day fishes best from afternoon into evening. Fish confidently and change only when the bites stop. Autumn fish are feeding up and less fussy than in summer.

Atikamik Lake is one of the Kenora District waters in Ontario. It sits at 361 metres above sea level. With some 86 hectares of water, there is room for a boat but no need of one. There is roughly 6.8 km of bank, more than one visit can cover properly. Start from Red Lake, 159 km down the road. Winnipeg sits 413 km out, and it is the nearest city worth the name. Rules here are straightforward: one set of provincial rules.
Depth remains unrecorded, so treat the first session as a survey. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. Kenora District records list northern pike, longnose sucker, white sucker, johnny darter and logperch among the fish reported. Read it as a county summary, not a water-by-water list. At Atikamik Lake light and wind decide more than tackle does.
Temperature averages peak at 17°C in July and bottom out at -22°C in January. This is a two-season water: locked, then wide open. Firm cover through the cold months, then open water from early May. Break-up sits around early May on average, with the water closing again about early November. Fishing peaks soon after break-up and again before the cold returns. It holds true on Atikamik Lake more years than not.
Nothing in our records says who may fish here. Records list it as a natural water body rather than an impoundment. Mapping shows an empty shoreline: no ramp, no jetty, no marked entry. For the pike, wire up and throw larger lures along the weed edges. Parking is often the real limit rather than the bank itself. Where parking is tight, arriving early solves most problems. If the gate is shut, Nickels Lake at 5.5 km is the nearest alternative. Nothing on Atikamik Lake should be assumed from this page alone.
