No cloud to trap the day's warmth tonight, with steady pressure of wind from the NW with the glass holding level. The fish at Assinamish Lake are likely to sit near the margins and the shelf beyond them. Expect the better fishing from the day. Give the likely spots time before moving.

This water sits in Algoma, Ontario. It stands 414 metres above sea level. About 10 hectares of surface, which puts the far bank inside easy sight. It is one of the smaller waters we list in Algoma. The closest town, Thessalon, is 43 km distant. Further out sit Blind River (55 km) and Elliot Lake (59 km). No boundary runs near, so the local rules hold throughout.
The records we hold are silent on depth, so plan to find it yourself. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. Still water like this holds fish on the edges rather than out in the open. Records held for Algoma cover walleye, northern pike, Iowa darter and yellow perch. The county list is broader than any single water. Assinamish Lake gives up more to patience than to distance.
The seasonal spread runs -12°C to 18°C. Cold locks it up for a good stretch each year. Count the season from break-up, usually late April. Ice clears near late April and comes back about late November in a typical year. Just after the ice goes and just before it returns, the fishing lifts. Anyone fishing Assinamish Lake regularly works to that calendar.
Public data does not answer the access question here. No car park, ramp or path is recorded within easy reach of the shore. A small crankbait along the drop and a worm in the thick stuff cover the bass. Provincial rules still apply whatever the bank status. Some ground is open by custom rather than by right, so tread carefully. If the gate is shut, Shingwak Lake at 0.4 km is the nearest alternative. For Assinamish Lake, the notice at the access point is the final word.
