Overcast skies today, with a decent NW wind working the banks and pressure going nowhere. The water to cover at Art Lake is points where shallow meets deep. Numbers are low everywhere; the night is the pick of them. Scale down and fish slowly. The season of moving fish: stay mobile and watch for bait.

Art Lake lies within the bounds of Rainy River District, Ontario. The setting is lake country bush. Roughly 97 hectares: a morning covers one end, an afternoon the other. You are looking at roughly 7.5 km of shoreline, with plenty of water between access points. Atikokan lies 32 km from the water. Ely is 85 km and Ignace 98 km. This one is safely inside the county line.
No depth figure has reached our records, which makes a plummet useful. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. Reported across Rainy River District: northern pike, smallmouth bass, yellow perch and walleye. Records at this level tell you what is in the area. Fish Art Lake to its features, not to its size.
Between January at about -17°C and July at about 18°C, the water has a wide range to work through. The year runs cold to warm and back, with clear transitions. The lid arrives early and lasts until roughly late April. The open-water window runs from around late April to about mid November in an average year. Just after the ice goes and just before it returns, the fishing lifts. At Art Lake the season follows that pattern closely.
Who may fish here is not settled in anything we hold. It formed naturally, so levels move with rainfall rather than with a gate. Nothing formal is recorded here: no ramp, no car park, no marked path. Bass water: a Texas-rigged worm near cover, a spinnerbait when you need to cover ground. Rules for this water may differ from the county norm. Access can change hands, so last year's answer may not hold. The nearest alternative is Bisk Lake, 3 km out. None of that is settled for Art Lake in what we hold.
