Patchy cloud over the water after dark, with a busy WNW wind on the open water and pressure going nowhere. Start the search at Anubis Lake along the margins and the shelf beyond them. The best of it runs the day. Small adjustments will matter more than big moves. Falling temperatures are switching fish back on.

Anubis Lake stands in Lake County, Minnesota. The setting is pine and birch on every side. It measures about 159 acres, which is a comfortable size for bank fishing. At about 3.3 miles of edge, most people work one arm at a time. On our Lake County list it sits near the top for size. The closest town, Atikokan, is 34 miles distant. Ely follows at 41 miles, then Babbitt at 54 miles. One jurisdiction covers this water end to end.
Our records carry no depth, so judge it from the bank. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. Weed, then depth: that is the order to fish a water of this kind. Across Lake County, recorded fish include white sucker, yellow perch, northern pike and rainbow trout. Records at this level tell you what is in the area. Read Anubis Lake before you fish it and the day goes better.
Between January at about 3°F and July at about 65°F, the water has a wide range to work through. The season turns properly here, and fish follow it closely. The lid usually sets by midwinter and gives way around late April. Break-up sits around late April on average, with the water closing again about mid November. June through September is the settled part of the year, with the shoulders busier for fish. That is the shape of the year on Anubis Lake.
The rules here are undocumented as far as public sources go. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. Nothing in the way of made access shows up nearby: no ramp, no car park, no path. Bass water: a Texas-rigged worm near cover, a spinnerbait when you need to cover ground. Rules differ from one water to the next round here. Barbless rules turn up on managed water more often than not. The nearest alternative is Bird Lake, 1.3 miles out. Confirm access to Anubis Lake locally before you travel.
