A closed sky with even light today, with just enough WNW wind to ripple the surface and no real change in pressure. Start the search at Allenby Lake along shallow cover and weed edges. Not a day the forecast likes; the morning keeps a flicker of interest. Fish the best hour hard and keep the rest short.

Ontario holds Allenby Lake, in Algoma. The ground round it is northern bush. With some 87 hectares of water, there is room for a boat but no need of one. About 4.3 km of bank, so nothing stays unexplored for long. Kapuskasing at 67 km is the nearest place to stop. After that come Smooth Rock Falls at 89 km and Timmins at 104 km. No boundary runs near, so the local rules hold throughout.
There is no published depth for this one, so start shallow and work out. A soft bed grows weed late into autumn, which keeps fish shallow. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. Across Algoma, recorded fish include walleye, northern pike, Iowa darter, yellow perch and white sucker. County records show the wider picture rather than this one place. At Allenby Lake the water rewards a slow, careful approach.
July runs about 17°C on average, January about -18°C. Winter runs most of the calendar, and everything worth doing happens in the gap. Ice-out usually falls in early May, and the weeks after it fish hardest. Averages suggest open water from about early May through to roughly mid November. Just after the ice goes and just before it returns, the fishing lifts. It sets the rhythm of the year at Allenby Lake.
We have no record of the rules that apply on this bank. It formed naturally, so levels move with rainfall rather than with a gate. Mapping shows an empty shoreline: no ramp, no jetty, no marked entry. Bass water: a Texas-rigged worm near cover, a spinnerbait when you need to cover ground. Rules differ from one water to the next round here. Night access is frequently treated as a separate matter. The nearest alternative is Roland Lake, 2.6 km out. None of that is settled for Allenby Lake in what we hold.
