A closed sky with even light today, with hardly a ripple anywhere and pressure going nowhere. On Airport Lake, work windblown banks where food collects first. A hard day on paper; the night edges the rest. Scale down and fish slowly. The pre-winter feed makes autumn days generous.

Airport Lake is a Thunder Bay District water, Ontario side. It sits in taiga country. It runs to roughly 48 hectares — big enough to hold fish away from the bank, small enough to learn. Shoreline length is close to 5.0 km, and each section fishes a little differently. Longlac is the closest town at 99 km. It is 304 km to Thunder Bay, the nearest city. It lies deep inside the county rather than near an edge.
Depth figures are not published for this one. Still water like this holds fish on the edges rather than out in the open. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. Survey and observation records for Thunder Bay District include cisco, blackfin cisco, rainbow smelt and bloater. These are county-wide records, so not all of them will be in this water. On Airport Lake the obvious spot is not always the productive one.
The warm month here averages 16°C; the cold one sits at -21°C. The window is narrow, and fish feed hard while it lasts. Once it clears, about early May, the fishing comes on quickly. The season between ice runs from about early May to early November. Look to early summer and the first cool weeks of autumn. That shapes the year on Airport Lake.
Nothing we hold confirms whether access is permitted. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. No car park, ramp or path is recorded within easy reach of the shore. One rod, a handful of hooks and floats, and a few small lures are enough for this water. Where a permit is needed, the nearest town usually sells it. Keep proof of licence with you rather than in the car. Five Cross Lake sits 1.4 km off and takes the overflow. None of that is settled for Airport Lake in what we hold.
