Low, flat cloud sitting over the water, with a firm W blow with a settled glass. Start the search at Acid Lake along the first drop-off and weed lines. One clear peak today: the night. Cover water early, then settle where the signs are. Autumn fish are feeding up and less fussy than in summer.

Acid Lake lies in Sudbury, in Ontario. The land about it is mixed forest. It runs to roughly 20 hectares — big enough to hold fish away from the bank, small enough to learn. Bank access stretches around 1.9 km in total. Supplies mean a trip to Espanola, 35 km off. Greater Sudbury is the closest city, 61 km away. The nearest edge is a long way off, so local rules apply throughout.
Depth is unknown to us, and the shoreline is the better guide. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. Public occurrence data for Sudbury names smallmouth bass, northern pike and yellow perch. The list covers the county rather than this water alone, so treat it as a guide. On Acid Lake the obvious spot is not always the productive one.
The year swings from about -10°C in January to roughly 19°C in July. Seasons are distinct, and each one fishes differently. Once it clears, about late April, the fishing comes on quickly. In an average year the thaw lands around late April and the freeze near early December. The strongest runs come at either end of the open season. Time your trip to Acid Lake by conditions rather than dates.
Public sources are silent on who controls the bank. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. Overnight stays are possible 350 m away. Largemouth respond to soft plastics tight to cover; go weedless where the growth is heavy. Bank access can be seasonal on ground like this. Signs go up and come down, so check on the day. De Lamorandiere Lake sits 0.9 km off and takes the overflow. None of that is settled for Acid Lake in what we hold.
