Overcast skies today, with a decent WNW wind working the banks and no real change in pressure. Start the search at Mallery Lake along windblown banks where food collects. If you must go, go in the night. One good spot fished well beats five fished quickly. The cold puts a premium on the calmest, deepest water.

The Nunavut entry here is Mallery Lake, in Nunavut. The ground around here is dry rangeland. This is big water, about 460.16 sq km, and in a wind it behaves like a small sea. Bays run back a long way, and the fish move between them with the season. It ranks high for size among our Nunavut listings. Baker Lake at 120 km is the nearest place to stop. Rankin Inlet lies 340 km off, Arviat another 389 km. No border sits close enough to matter.
No depth figure appears in our records, so the bank has to tell you. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. Fish Mallery Lake where the bottom changes rather than where it looks deep. Steep banks give depth at your feet and save a long cast.
In an average year August sits at 9°C and January at -31°C. Ice holds for a long stretch, so the open weeks matter more here than further south. The freeze runs deep into the year, with break-up near late June. On the long-run averages the water opens up around late June and starts locking again about mid October. Right after break-up, and again as the nights sharpen, is when to go. It sets the rhythm of the year at Mallery Lake.
Nothing we hold confirms whether access is permitted. Records list it as a natural water body rather than an impoundment. There is no mapped parking or launch nearby, which keeps numbers down. Check whether a boat is allowed before you tow one. Close seasons apply to some species and not others. Princess Mary Lake, 39 km away, makes the obvious fallback. For Mallery Lake, the notice at the access point is the final word.
