Boulder Lake, Nunavut: Fishing Spots and Seasons

• Overview

  Boulder Lake lies in Nunavut. The water sits 302 metres up. Around 57 hectares of surface means several distinct areas to work. With 6.6 km or so of shoreline, boat anglers cover ground the bank cannot. On size it sits at the modest end of our Nunavut list. The nearest place of any size is Arviat, 256 km away. Rankin Inlet follows at 423 km, then Baker Lake at 432 km. No border sits close enough to matter.

• Where to Fish on Boulder Lake

  The records we hold are silent on depth, so plan to find it yourself. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. Still water like this holds fish on the edges rather than out in the open. The near bank of Boulder Lake is often the one people ignore. Fish the shade line as the sun moves round.

• Seasonal Patterns

  Expect July to average close to 14°C, with January the cold end at about -29°C. The fishing year opens late and shuts early. The open season starts with the thaw, near enough early June. Open water usually runs from early June until about mid October. The open run goes from the thaw to the freeze, and April through October covers most of it. That shapes the year on Boulder Lake.

• Tackle & Baits

  Ownership and access are not documented in what we hold. It formed naturally, so levels move with rainfall rather than with a gate. Formal access is not mapped, so the last stretch is likely on foot. Sort the permit out before you load the car. Some water is controlled locally without a sign saying so.
