Bright moon and an empty sky tonight, with steady pressure of wind from the NW and pressure sitting still. Start the search at Walsh Lake along the seam between weed and open water. The strongest window is the night. Push the good hours hard and rest through the dead ones. Autumn rewards covering water while the fish roam.

Walsh Lake sits in Guysborough County, out in Nova Scotia. Height above sea level is 44 metres. At about 12 hectares, a day is enough to walk the shoreline properly. The whole outline is near 2.1 km, and most of it is walkable. Port Hawkesbury sits 19 km from the bank. Then Louisdale, 30 km, and Princeville, 36 km. No border sits close enough to matter.
Depth went unrecorded, which puts the reading back on you. A soft bed grows weed late into autumn, which keeps fish shallow. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. Fish documented in Guysborough County include alewife, American eel, brook trout and Atlantic salmon. Protected fish appear in the records for this area, so treat the list as information, not an invitation. Walsh Lake fishes better once you know its edges.
August is the warm end of the year here, averaging about 18°C, while February sits near -6°C. Cold locks it up for a good stretch each year. The freeze runs deep into the year, with break-up near late April. Break-up sits around late April on average, with the water closing again about late December. Look to early summer and the first cool weeks of autumn. Plan around that when you fish Walsh Lake.
Ownership and access are not documented in what we hold. Records list it as a natural water body rather than an impoundment. We find no slipway, car park or made path within a short radius, so treat access as rough. Light line and small metal for the trout; a fly rod earns its place on calm evenings. Parking is often the real limit rather than the bank itself. Fishing rules and camping rules are set separately here. Should this one be busy, Porper Lake is 1.6 km off. Confirm access to Walsh Lake locally before you travel.
