Wet weather working through today, with light air out of the ESE and steady pressure. On Trout Lake, work the margins and the shelf beyond them first. The strongest window is the middle of the day. Start on the obvious water and expand from there. Fish follow the bait in autumn, so find one to find the other.

Trout Lake is one of the Halifax Regional Municipality waters in Nova Scotia. This is mixed forest country. About 7 hectares of surface, which puts the far bank inside easy sight. Supplies mean a trip to Musquodoboit Harbour, 18 km off. For a city, Dartmouth is 45 km off. Close by you also have: Higgins Lake about 2 km, McMullin Lake at 2.3 km, Grant Lake about 2.4 km, Reid Lake at 2.5 km and Beaver Lake about 2.8 km. One jurisdiction covers this water end to end.
Nothing in our records gives a depth for this one. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. Still water like this holds fish on the edges rather than out in the open. Fish documented in Halifax Regional Municipality include brook trout, alewife, rainbow smelt, American eel and Atlantic salmon. Several of these carry legal protection or closed seasons; the rulebook comes before the rod. Trout Lake gives up its fish to patience rather than distance.
Long-term averages put August at about 18°C and January near -6°C. Winter shuts the surface down for months. Hard cover is dependable here; it goes around mid April. The season between ice runs from about mid April to mid December. Right after break-up, and again as the nights sharpen, is when to go. The season on Trout Lake follows the weather closely.
There is no clear statement anywhere on who can fish it. No launch point is recorded nearby, so this is a bank water unless you carry a boat in. For the trout, small spinners and a box of nymphs cover both approaches. Where the road in crosses private land, ask first. Check whether bait restrictions apply before you buy any. Failing this one, try Higgins Lake, 2 km away. What applies at Trout Lake may have changed since it was mapped.
