A closed sky with even light today, with an easy breeze from the ESE and no real change in pressure. The productive water at Swallow Lake will be around reed fringes and open pockets. One clear peak today: the evening. Cover water early, then settle where the signs are. Cooler water spreads fish back across the shallows.

Swallow Lake is one of the Queens County waters in Nova Scotia. The bank is 111 metres above sea level. Surface area is around 27 hectares, which gives you real water without needing a boat. With about 3.5 km of edge, you can try several depths in one session. Supplies mean a trip to Shelburne, 43 km off. For a city, Halifax is 147 km off. The nearest boundary is a fair way off.
Our records carry no depth, so judge it from the bank. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. This is a lake, so the margins and the first drop matter most. County-wide records name smallmouth bass, Atlantic whitefish, yellow perch, chain pickerel and brown bullhead. Protected fish appear in the records for this area, so treat the list as information, not an invitation. Fish Swallow Lake to its features, not to its size.
Climate records put July near 18°C and January near -5°C. Winter shuts the surface down for months. Once it clears, about early April, the fishing comes on quickly. Average temperatures cross freezing around early April in spring and again near late December in autumn. From the thaw to midsummer the fishing improves week by week. At Swallow Lake the season follows that pattern closely.
Whether the bank is open is not something our records settle. Records list it as a natural water body rather than an impoundment. No made access appears within a short radius, so plan to park on a verge and walk. A small crankbait along the drop and a worm in the thick stuff cover the bass. Take the rules with you rather than trusting memory. Access can change hands, so last year's answer may not hold. Beartrack Lake at 1.2 km is the sensible second choice. Nothing on Swallow Lake should be assumed from this page alone.
