A wet system passing over today, with a faint ESE drift with a settled glass. Activity on South Twin Lake should centre on windblown banks where food collects. Save your energy for the middle of the day. Start on the obvious water and expand from there. Cooler water spreads fish back across the shallows.

Night
In Nova Scotia, South Twin Lake falls inside Halifax Regional Municipality. Beyond the shoreline you have lake country bush. At about 12 hectares, a day is enough to walk the shoreline properly. The edge runs 1.5 km or so, easy to work in an afternoon. You are 23 km from Musquodoboit Harbour. Further out sit Porters Lake (36 km) and Lake Echo (42 km). The county line is nowhere near, so one local authority covers the water.
Depth is unknown to us, and the shoreline is the better guide. A soft bed grows weed late into autumn, which keeps fish shallow. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. Species logged across Halifax Regional Municipality include brook trout, alewife, rainbow smelt, American eel and Atlantic salmon. Some of the species recorded here are protected or tightly regulated, so check what may be targeted before you fish. On South Twin Lake a short move beats a long cast.
Seasonal averages run from -6°C in January up to 18°C in August. Winter shuts the surface down for months. Expect a solid lid for months and a thaw around mid April. Break-up sits around mid April on average, with the water closing again about mid December. Right after break-up, and again as the nights sharpen, is when to go. Plan around that when you fish South Twin Lake.
Who may fish here is not settled in anything we hold. No dam controls it, and the level follows the season. There is no mapped parking or launch nearby, which keeps numbers down. Light line and small metal for the trout; a fly rod earns its place on calm evenings. Parking is often the real limit rather than the bank itself. Keep proof of licence with you rather than in the car. The nearest alternative is North Twin Lake, 0.8 km out. Signs at South Twin Lake carry more weight than any list.
