Solid cloud cover today, with a helpful ripple pushed from the ESE with the glass holding level. Fish at Solnow Lake should hold close to inflow corners and shaded margins. Save your energy for the evening. Work the productive water thoroughly. Autumn rewards covering water while the fish roam.

Solnow Lake belongs to Queens County, Nova Scotia. The sea is 10 km distant. Roughly 21 hectares: a morning covers one end, an afternoon the other. With about 3.2 km of edge, you can try several depths in one session. Liverpool is the closest place, 10 km off. Then Bridgewater, 45 km, and Shelburne, 50 km. It sits well inside its county, with no border complications.
No depth figure has reached our records, which makes a plummet useful. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. Reported across Queens County: smallmouth bass, Atlantic whitefish, yellow perch, chain pickerel and brown bullhead. At least one recorded species is protected in parts of its range; read the local rules before targeting anything. The near bank of Solnow Lake is often the one people ignore.
Typical July readings run about 18°C; by January the average is down near -5°C. Winter closes the water for a while, and the reopening is worth catching. The open season starts with the thaw, near enough early April. Ice clears near early April and comes back about late December in a typical year. May into June fishes hardest, and September gives a second good stretch before the lid returns. Solnow Lake runs to that rhythm year in and year out.
The rules here are undocumented as far as public sources go. It formed naturally, so levels move with rainfall rather than with a gate. Access points are not mapped for this water, which suits people who like quiet. A phone call first saves an afternoon. Fishing rules and camping rules are set separately here. If the gate is shut, Big Bon Mature Lake at 4.3 km is the nearest alternative. For Solnow Lake, the notice at the access point is the final word.
