Cloud from horizon to horizon today, with barely a breath of wind and steady pressure. Fish at Second Lake should hold close to the shaded margin through bright spells. If you must go, go in the night. One good spot fished well beats five fished quickly. Cooler water spreads fish back across the shallows.

Second Lake sits within Halifax Regional Municipality in Nova Scotia. The sea is 2.8 km distant. With some 18 hectares of water, there is room for a boat but no need of one. With about 3.2 km of edge, you can try several depths in one session. The closest town, Musquodoboit Harbour, is 39 km away. Beyond it, Porters Lake at 53 km and Lake Echo at 59 km. The nearest edge is a long way off, so local rules apply throughout.
Our records carry no depth, so judge it from the bank. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. A soft bed grows weed late into autumn, which keeps fish shallow. Halifax Regional Municipality records list Atlantic cod, coalfish and brook trout among the fish reported. At least one recorded species is protected in parts of its range; read the local rules before targeting anything. On Second Lake that means starting tight and working out.
Climate normals give 18°C for August and -5°C for February. The year runs cold to warm and back, with clear transitions. Once it clears, about mid April, the fishing comes on quickly. From about mid April to around late December, expect open water on the long-run figures. Fish feed hardest at the start and the close of the open season. The season on Second Lake follows the weather closely.
Ownership and access are not documented in what we hold. No dam controls it, and the level follows the season. A jetty or pier is mapped about 1 km from here. Trout here take small spinners, spoons and, where fly water allows, a nymph or dry. Season dates differ by species, so read the table. A polite question at the farm gate opens more banks than anything else. Jacksons Lake, 1.1 km away, makes the obvious fallback. Check the current arrangement for Second Lake.
