Flat light and a covered sky today, with steady pressure of wind from the W with the barometer flat. Expect most activity at Round Lake around points where shallow meets deep. If you must go, go in the night. One good spot fished well beats five fished quickly. Falling temperatures are switching fish back on.

Round Lake is listed under Cape Breton County, Nova Scotia. Elevation runs to 6 metres. About 8 hectares of surface, which puts the far bank inside easy sight. Ground here is low by Nova Scotia standards. For supplies, Marion Bridge is 17 km out. It is 34 km to Sydney, the nearest city. What else is close: Long Lake lies 1.4 km on, Gabarus Lake 2.2 km away, Mohawk Lake lies 2.6 km on, Buscombe Lake 3.2 km away and MacLeod Lake lies 3.4 km on. This one is safely inside the county line.
Our records carry no depth, so judge it from the bank. Being tidal, the water moves twice a day, and the fishing moves with it. Still water like this holds fish on the edges rather than out in the open. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. County-wide records name striped bass, Atlantic salmon, Atlantic cod, alewife and American eel. Protected fish appear in the records for this area, so treat the list as information, not an invitation. Round Lake responds to conditions more than to tactics.
The warmest month averages 18°C, the coldest about -6°C. The year splits cleanly: hard water, then open water. Expect a solid lid for months and a thaw around late April. Climate figures give an open season running late April to late December. May into June fishes hardest, and September gives a second good stretch before the lid returns. Round Lake fishes to that pattern most years.
Ownership and access are not documented in what we hold. There is no mapped parking or launch close by, which usually means walking in. Largemouth respond to soft plastics tight to cover; go weedless where the growth is heavy. Provincial rules still apply whatever the bank status. Barbless rules turn up on managed water more often than not. Long Lake, 1.4 km away, makes the obvious fallback. None of that is settled for Round Lake in what we hold.
