Heavy overcast holding through the day, with light air out of the SE with the barometer flat. Activity on Rocky Lake should centre on any hard bottom among the soft. The evening should out-fish the rest of the day. Push the good hours hard and rest through the dead ones. Cooler water spreads fish back across the shallows.

The Hants entry here is Rocky Lake, in Nova Scotia. The setting is rolling bush. The water covers some 18 hectares, so pick a bank rather than trying to cover it all. The bank runs about 2.3 km all the way round, so one visit can cover most of it. Enfield lies 10 km from the water. Then Lantz, 13 km, and Milford Station, 18 km. The line between counties passes nearby, which can change who manages the water.
There is no published depth for this one, so start shallow and work out. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. A soft bed grows weed late into autumn, which keeps fish shallow. County-wide records name American eel, Atlantic salmon, striped bass, smallmouth bass and rainbow smelt. Several of these carry legal protection or closed seasons; the rulebook comes before the rod. Read Rocky Lake for ten minutes before the first cast goes out.
August is the warm end of the year here, averaging about 18°C, while January sits near -6°C. The year splits cleanly: hard water, then open water. Expect a solid lid for months and a thaw around mid April. The lid tends to go about mid April and return around mid December. The strongest runs come at either end of the open season. Plan any trip to Rocky Lake around it.
Ownership and access are not documented in what we hold. It formed naturally, so levels move with rainfall rather than with a gate. Access is unmapped, which usually means a farm track and a walk. A small crankbait along the drop and a worm in the thick stuff cover the bass. Where a permit is needed, the nearest town usually sells it. Where tickets apply, they are sold in the nearest town rather than on the bank. The nearest alternative is McLennan Mill Lake, 0.8 km out. Signs at Rocky Lake carry more weight than any list.
