Cloud from horizon to horizon today, with light air out of the E and the barometer holding steady. Give the weed line and any gaps in it the first hour at Pye Lake. The numbers single out the middle of the day. Settle in and let the day develop. The autumn feed-up is on; baitfish areas are the key.

In Nova Scotia, Pye Lake falls inside Guysborough County. The bank is 7 metres above sea level. It runs to roughly 13 hectares — big enough to hold fish away from the bank, small enough to learn. The edge runs 1.8 km or so, easy to work in an afternoon. Ground here is low by Nova Scotia standards. The closest town, Antigonish, is 72 km away. Stellarton is 79 km away, with New Glasgow at 80 km. A border sits close enough to be relevant to the paperwork.
Depth is unknown to us, and the shoreline is the better guide. Being tidal, the water moves twice a day, and the fishing moves with it. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. Protected fish appear in the records for this area, so treat the list as information, not an invitation. At Pye Lake light and wind decide more than tackle does.
Expect August to average close to 18°C, with February the cold end at about -5°C. Cold winters and warm summers give a wide working range. After mid April the shallows warm and the fish move up. Expect the water usable from around mid April until roughly late December. The strong weeks are the first after break-up and the last before the freeze. Anyone fishing Pye Lake regularly works to that calendar.
The access position is unclear from public sources. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. Somewhere to sit and eat is 940 m out. There is a toilet block some 960 m out. For the trout, small spinners and a box of nymphs cover both approaches. Some banks are open only from a marked point. Where tickets apply, they are sold in the nearest town rather than on the bank. For a change of water, Marsh Lake is 0.5 km distant. Treat access at Pye Lake as something to verify.
