Flat light and a covered sky today, with just enough SW wind to ripple the surface and pressure going nowhere. Fish at Paper Mill Lake should hold close to the first drop-off and weed lines. A tough forecast; the middle of the day offers the only real chance. Keep baits small and presentations quiet.

The Halifax Regional Municipality end of Nova Scotia holds Paper Mill Lake. It stands 27 metres above sea level. At about 22 hectares, a day is enough to walk the shoreline properly. Around 3.1 km of margin, front to back. Glen Moir at 0.7 km is the nearest place to stop. Beyond it, Paper Mill Lake at 1 km and Millview at 1.7 km. It sits well inside the county, so one set of rules covers it.
We hold no depth figure for this one. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. This is a lake, so the margins and the first drop matter most. Records held for Halifax Regional Municipality cover Atlantic cod, coalfish, brook trout and alewife. Several of these carry legal protection or closed seasons; the rulebook comes before the rod. Anyone new to Paper Mill Lake should walk it once before setting up.
Average temperature peaks around 18°C in August and bottoms out near -6°C in January. Cold locks it up for a good stretch each year. Hard cover is dependable here; it goes around mid April. The lid tends to go about mid April and return around mid December. May into June fishes hardest, and September gives a second good stretch before the lid returns. Plan any trip to Paper Mill Lake around it.
