Depth here is unknown, so count the lead down before committing. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. Survey and observation records for Kings County include Atlantic salmon, striped bass and brook trout. Several of these carry legal protection or closed seasons; the rulebook comes before the rod. Read McGee Lake for ten minutes before the first cast goes out.
Typical July readings run about 19°C; by January the average is down near -6°C. Winter shuts things down for a spell, then spring reopens them fast. Ice fishing carries the winter, and the water opens about mid April. Break-up near mid April, freeze-up near mid December: that is the shape of an average year. May into June fishes hardest, and September gives a second good stretch before the lid returns. On McGee Lake that shapes the whole year.
Our records carry no access rule either way. It formed naturally, so levels move with rainfall rather than with a gate. Mapping shows no built access close by; expect to walk in from wherever you can leave the car. A small crankbait along the drop and a worm in the thick stuff cover the bass. A landowner's word beats anything printed elsewhere. Some ground is open by custom rather than by right, so tread carefully. Tupper Lake at 1.5 km is the sensible second choice.
