Look for McCullough Lake in the Halifax Regional Municipality part of Nova Scotia. The country here is lake country bush. Small at around 9 hectares: two anglers spread out cover most of it. You are 15 km from Porters Lake. Dartmouth sits 31 km out, and it is the nearest city worth the name. If this one is busy: Rocky Lake 1.1 km, Logan Lake some 1.7 km off, Pine Lake 1.9 km, Otter Lake some 2.1 km off and Drummer Lake 2.5 km. No border sits close enough to matter.
There is no published depth for this one, so start shallow and work out. A soft bed grows weed late into autumn, which keeps fish shallow. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. Public occurrence data for Halifax Regional Municipality names brook trout, alewife and rainbow smelt. Some of the species recorded here are protected or tightly regulated, so check what may be targeted before you fish. On McCullough Lake that means starting tight and working out.
Typical August readings run about 18°C; by January the average is down near -6°C. Cold winters and warm summers give a wide working range. Ice-out usually falls in mid April, and the weeks after it fish hardest. The open-water window runs from around mid April to about mid December in an average year. Look to early summer and the first cool weeks of autumn. McCullough Lake fishes to that pattern most years.
The access position is unclear from public sources. Public mapping records no formal access here, so plan for a walk and soft ground. Trout here take small spinners, spoons and, where fly water allows, a nymph or dry. Provincial rules still apply whatever the bank status. Some stretches are reserved and marked as such on the ground. Rocky Lake at 1.1 km is the sensible second choice. What applies at McCullough Lake may have changed since it was mapped.
