Soft grey light all day today, with a helpful ripple pushed from the WSW with the barometer flat. On Long Lake, work the weed line and any gaps in it first. A broad window opens from the day. Commit to the pattern once the first fish shows. Cooler water spreads fish back across the shallows.

Night
Nova Scotia holds Long Lake, in Halifax Regional Municipality. The water sits 75 metres up. Roughly 26 hectares: a morning covers one end, an afternoon the other. The edge runs 3.7 km or so, easy to work in an afternoon. English Corner is the closest place, 3.2 km off. For a city, Dartmouth is 17 km off. No boundary runs near, so the local rules hold throughout.
Depth remains unrecorded, so treat the first session as a survey. This is a lake, so the margins and the first drop matter most. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. Across Halifax Regional Municipality, recorded fish include brook trout, alewife and rainbow smelt. At least one recorded species is protected in parts of its range; read the local rules before targeting anything. Anyone new to Long Lake should walk it once before setting up.
Average temperature peaks around 18°C in August and bottoms out near -6°C in January. A full turn of seasons, with the strongest sport on either side of summer. Count the season from break-up, usually mid April. Averages place the thaw at mid April and the freeze at mid December. The middle of summer slows a little, with dawn and dusk carrying it. Long Lake runs to its own calendar within the local pattern.
Our records carry no access rule either way. No dam controls it, and the level follows the season. The map shows no ramp or car park nearby, so this is a walk-in water. Trout here take small spinners, spoons and, where fly water allows, a nymph or dry. Provincial rules still apply whatever the bank status. Access can change hands, so last year's answer may not hold. Cranberry Lake sits 1.1 km off and takes the overflow. Treat Long Lake as unsettled until someone local tells you otherwise.
