Low mist over the surface today, with a gentle ripple from the ESE with the glass holding level. Whatever swims in Lizard Lake should be near inflow corners and shaded margins. The strongest window is the middle of the day. Start on the obvious water and expand from there. Cooling water has fish active and on the move.

Set in Hants, Lizard Lake is a Nova Scotia water. It lies 169 metres above sea level. This is a tiny water, and one quiet approach covers all of it. On size it sits at the modest end of our Hants list. Windsor at 18 km is the nearest place to stop. Then Upper Hammonds Plains, 25 km, and Mount Uniacke, 26 km. This one is safely inside the county line.
We hold no survey for this water; read the slope of the shoreline instead. This is a lake, so the margins and the first drop matter most. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. Across Hants, recorded fish include American eel, Atlantic salmon, striped bass, smallmouth bass and rainbow smelt. Several of these carry legal protection or closed seasons; the rulebook comes before the rod. On Lizard Lake the obvious spot is not always the productive one.
August runs about 18°C on average, January about -6°C. Spring and autumn carry the fishing; summer and winter test it. The lid usually goes in mid April, which opens the strongest weeks of the year. Average temperatures cross freezing around mid April in spring and again near mid December in autumn. The weeks after the thaw and the ones before the freeze are the strongest. That shapes the year on Lizard Lake.
Nothing on record says whether the bank is open or closed. No made access is recorded, so a short walk in is the likely arrangement. A small crankbait along the drop and a worm in the thick stuff cover the bass. Provincial rules still apply whatever the bank status. A polite question at the farm gate opens more banks than anything else. Should this one be busy, Bear Trap Lake is 0.7 km off. Treat Lizard Lake as unsettled until someone local tells you otherwise.
