A grey, even sky over the water, with a light WSW breeze and steady pressure. Expect most activity at Little Lake around structure within a cast of the bank. Little to get excited about, though the middle of the day holds a sliver of promise. Downsize everything and pick the calmest water. The pre-winter feed makes autumn days generous.

The Guysborough County end of Nova Scotia holds Little Lake. The country here is mixed forest. Roughly 12 hectares: a morning covers one end, an afternoon the other. About 2.7 km of bank, so nothing stays unexplored for long. Stellarton lies 35 km from the water. Westville follows at 36 km, then New Glasgow at 38 km. It sits well inside the county, so one set of rules covers it.
Our records hold no depth for this water. Still water like this holds fish on the edges rather than out in the open. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. Guysborough County records list alewife, American eel, brook trout and Atlantic salmon among the fish reported. Some of the species recorded here are protected or tightly regulated, so check what may be targeted before you fish. Little Lake gives up more to patience than to distance.
The range across the year is -7°C to 18°C. Seasons are distinct, and each one fishes differently. Ice fishing carries the winter, and the water opens about late April. On the long-run averages the water opens up around late April and starts locking again about mid December. The first weeks of open water and the last are the ones to plan for. Expect Little Lake to follow that timing.
Who may fish here is not settled in anything we hold. Records list it as a natural water body rather than an impoundment. Public mapping records no formal access here, so plan for a walk and soft ground. Trout here take small spinners, spoons and, where fly water allows, a nymph or dry. Check whether a boat is allowed before you tow one. Rules for boats are stricter than rules for the bank in many places. Hill Lake, 1.8 km away, makes the obvious fallback. Treat Little Lake as unsettled until someone local tells you otherwise.
