No direct sun expected today, with a kind SW breeze on the water and pressure going nowhere. Give any hard bottom among the soft the first hour at Lake Micmac. The best of it runs night into morning. Push the good hours hard and rest through the dead ones. Autumn fish are feeding up and less fussy than in summer.

Lake Micmac is set in Halifax Regional Municipality, Nova Scotia. The coast is 3.4 km away. At some 1.06 sq km it is far too large to cover on foot in a day. On our Halifax Regional Municipality list it sits near the top for size. The nearest town is Port Wallace, 0.9 km away. It is 3 km to Dartmouth, the nearest city. Rules here are straightforward: one set of provincial rules.
No depth figure appears in our records, so the bank has to tell you. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. Survey and observation records for Halifax Regional Municipality include brook trout, alewife, rainbow smelt, American eel and Atlantic salmon. Some of the species recorded here are protected or tightly regulated, so check what may be targeted before you fish. On Lake Micmac the quiet end is the one worth the extra effort.
Between January at about -5°C and August at about 18°C, the water has a wide range to work through. Winter shuts the surface down for months. Firm cover through the cold months, then open water from mid April. The season between ice runs from about mid April to mid December. September and October fish steadily right up to the freeze. The season on Lake Micmac rarely departs from it.
Ownership and access are not documented in what we hold. Launching is possible: a slipway lies 410 m off. Parking is mapped about 430 m from the bank. Mapping shows a jetty some 340 m off. A rest area sits about 1.1 km from the water. A toilet block sits 810 m away. Sort the permit out before you load the car. Signs go up and come down, so check on the day. Should this one be busy, Lake Banook is 1.3 km off. Nothing here settles the position at Lake Micmac for certain.
