Solid cloud cover today, with a light E breeze with the barometer flat. Whatever swims in Juniper Lake should be near points where shallow meets deep. The evening carries the best of the day. Work the productive water thoroughly. Autumn rewards covering water while the fish roam.

The Guysborough County end of Nova Scotia holds Juniper Lake. Everything around it is pine and birch. It covers about 3 hectares, so this is small water you can walk round in under an hour. It is one of the smaller waters we list in Guysborough County. Port Hawkesbury lies 38 km from the water. After that come Louisdale at 44 km and Princeville at 55 km. This one is safely inside the county line.
Our records carry no depth, so judge it from the bank. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. Species logged across Guysborough County include alewife, American eel, brook trout and Atlantic salmon. At least one recorded species is protected in parts of its range; read the local rules before targeting anything. Juniper Lake gives up more to patience than to distance.
Expect August near 18°C and February near -6°C on the long-run figures. Cold winters and warm summers give a wide working range. Count on hard cover from midwinter, and open water from late April. Break-up sits around late April on average, with the water closing again about late December. Just after the ice goes and just before it returns, the fishing lifts. At Juniper Lake the season follows that pattern closely.
Nothing in our records says who may fish here. This sits inside Bonnett Lake Barrens Wilderness Area, so read the reserve notices first. Light line and small metal for the trout; a fly rod earns its place on calm evenings. Read any posted signs at the access point rather than assuming. Check whether bait restrictions apply before you buy any. Bonnet Lake, 1.5 km away, makes the obvious fallback. Where Juniper Lake is concerned, a local answer beats a written one.
