A crisp, open sky after dark, with a faint NW drift with a settled glass. The fish at Hoop Pole Lake are likely to sit near shallow cover and weed edges. The night is where the day comes good. Make the first hour count and build on it. Cooler water spreads fish back across the shallows.

Hoop Pole Lake is one of the Halifax Regional Municipality waters in Nova Scotia. This is rolling bush ground. At 9 hectares it is the sort of place you fish for an evening rather than a day. Head to Shad Bay, 7.5 km away, for anything you forgot. Beyond it, Brookside at 12 km and Hubley at 15 km. You are close to a county edge here; who manages the access can change within a short drive.
There is no recorded depth, so work from what you can see. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. Reported across Halifax Regional Municipality: brook trout, alewife, rainbow smelt, American eel and Atlantic salmon. Some of the species recorded here are protected or tightly regulated, so check what may be targeted before you fish. On Hoop Pole Lake the obvious spot is not always the productive one.
On the long-term average, August reads 18°C and January reads -5°C. A full turn of seasons, with the strongest sport on either side of summer. The lid usually sets by midwinter and gives way around mid April. From about mid April to around late December, expect open water on the long-run figures. Reckon on open water from spring through to late autumn, with May and June the strongest. Anyone fishing Hoop Pole Lake regularly works to that calendar.
We have no record of the rules that apply on this bank. Mapping shows no built access close by; expect to walk in from wherever you can leave the car. For the trout, small spinners and a box of nymphs cover both approaches. Rules differ from one water to the next round here. Fishing rules and camping rules are set separately here. The nearest alternative is Wild Cat Lake, 1.2 km out. The position on Hoop Pole Lake is worth confirming on the day.
