Heavy overcast holding through the day, with a light WSW breeze and pressure sitting still. On Fourth Lake, work sheltered bays and points first. Quiet conditions all day, with the morning marginally better. Quiet tactics only; the fish will not chase today. The season of moving fish: stay mobile and watch for bait.

Fourth Lake is one of the Halifax Regional Municipality listings for Nova Scotia. It sits at 85 metres above sea level. With some 13 hectares of water, there is room for a boat but no need of one. Shoreline comes to about 2.4 km, small enough to learn in a day. The closest town, Musquodoboit Harbour, is 37 km away. Porters Lake follows at 51 km, then Lake Echo at 56 km. It sits well inside its county, with no border complications.
Our records hold no depth for this water. Bays and points beat straight shoreline every time on water like this. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. Fish documented in Halifax Regional Municipality include brook trout, alewife, rainbow smelt and American eel. At least one recorded species is protected in parts of its range; read the local rules before targeting anything. Read Fourth Lake before you fish it and the day goes better.
Long-term averages put August at about 18°C and February near -6°C. Seasons are distinct, and each one fishes differently. Look for the thaw near mid April; the fishing lifts straight after. Ice usually gives way near mid April, and forms again about late December. Look to early summer and the first cool weeks of autumn. Fourth Lake runs to that rhythm year in and year out.
Who may fish here is not settled in anything we hold. It formed naturally, so levels move with rainfall rather than with a gate. Mapping shows a jetty some 70 m off. Light line and small metal for the trout; a fly rod earns its place on calm evenings. Parking is often the real limit rather than the bank itself. Where the way in crosses private ground, ask first. Fifth Lake at 0.8 km is the sensible second choice. Check the current arrangement for Fourth Lake.
