Soft grey light all day today, with a faint SSW drift and the barometer holding steady. Start the search at East Lake along shallow cover and weed edges. A broad window opens from night into morning. Commit to the pattern once the first fish shows. The pre-winter feed makes autumn days generous.

Look for East Lake in the Halifax Regional Municipality part of Nova Scotia. The shore lies 11 km out. It covers about 7 hectares, so this is small water you can walk round in under an hour. Nearest place of any size is Musquodoboit Harbour, 11 km away. It is 39 km to Dartmouth, the nearest city. It sits well inside its county, with no border complications.
Depth went unrecorded, which puts the reading back on you. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. Fish documented in Halifax Regional Municipality include brook trout, alewife and rainbow smelt. Protected fish appear in the records for this area, so treat the list as information, not an invitation. The shape of East Lake decides where the fish sit.
Temperature averages peak at 18°C in August and bottom out at -6°C in January. Cold winters and warm summers give a wide working range. Ice is part of the season here, ending near mid April. Average temperatures cross freezing around mid April in spring and again near mid December in autumn. September and October fish steadily right up to the freeze. The season on East Lake rarely departs from it.
We have no record of the rules that apply on this bank. No built facilities appear in mapping around this water. Trout here take small spinners, spoons and, where fly water allows, a nymph or dry. Provincial rules still apply whatever the bank status. Where tickets apply, they are sold in the nearest town rather than on the bank. West Lake at 0.7 km is the sensible second choice. Treat East Lake as unsettled until someone local tells you otherwise.
