Solid cloud cover today, with a light chop building from the WSW and pressure going nowhere. Activity on Earltown Lake should centre on structure within a cast of the bank. A tough forecast; the middle of the day offers the only real chance. Keep baits small and presentations quiet.

Earltown Lake is listed under Colchester, Nova Scotia. This is pine and birch ground. It covers about 10 hectares, so this is small water you can walk round in under an hour. For a base, Middleton sits 18 km out. For a city, Dartmouth is 105 km off. Within a short drive: Taylors Lake roughly 0.6 km, MacKay Lake a touch under 3.2 km, MacIntosh Lake roughly 5 km, Gully Lake a touch under 5.3 km and MacRaes Lake roughly 6.3 km. The boundary is close enough to be worth checking before you fish.
Depth is unmeasured here, so let the shoreline guide you. Still water like this holds fish on the edges rather than out in the open. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. Species logged across Colchester include Atlantic salmon, striped bass, brook trout, American eel and white sucker. Several of these carry legal protection or closed seasons; the rulebook comes before the rod. Anyone new to Earltown Lake should walk it once before setting up.
Average temperature peaks around 18°C in July and bottoms out near -8°C in January. Expect a real winter and a strong spring after it. After late April the shallows warm and the fish move up. The lid tends to go about late April and return around mid December. The weeks after the thaw and the ones before the freeze are the strongest. Time your trip to Earltown Lake by conditions rather than dates.
Whether the bank is open is not something our records settle. Mapping shows no built access close by; expect to walk in from wherever you can leave the car. A small crankbait along the drop and a worm in the thick stuff cover the bass. Local rules can differ across the county line, so check where you stand. Close seasons apply to some species and not others. Should this one be busy, Taylors Lake is 0.6 km off. For Earltown Lake in particular, ask before you travel.
