Soft grey light all day today, with just enough W wind to ripple the surface and pressure going nowhere. Fish at Dumaresq Lake should hold close to points where shallow meets deep. If you must go, go in the night. One good spot fished well beats five fished quickly. The autumn feed-up is on; baitfish areas are the key.

This water sits in Cape Breton County, Nova Scotia. The shore lies 9.1 km out. It measures about 86 hectares, which is a comfortable size for bank fishing. There is roughly 4.3 km of shoreline here, which is a short walk end to end. On our Cape Breton County list it sits near the top for size. Membertou sits 6 km from the bank. Further out sit Sydney (7.6 km) and Coxheath (8.6 km). It sits well inside its county, with no border complications.
Depth remains unrecorded, so treat the first session as a survey. Weed, then depth: that is the order to fish a water of this kind. A soft bed grows weed late into autumn, which keeps fish shallow. Records held for Cape Breton County cover striped bass, Atlantic salmon and alewife. At least one recorded species is protected in parts of its range; read the local rules before targeting anything. On Dumaresq Lake the obvious spot is not always the productive one.
Averages move between -6°C in February and 18°C in August. Expect a real winter and a strong spring after it. Winter locks it down, and late April brings it back. Ice usually gives way near late April, and forms again about late December. Late spring and early autumn carry the year between them. At Dumaresq Lake the season follows that pattern closely.
Whether the bank is open is not something our records settle. Records list it as a natural water body rather than an impoundment. Formal access is not mapped, so the last stretch is likely on foot. A small crankbait along the drop and a worm in the thick stuff cover the bass. Ask in the nearest town if you are unsure. Fishing rules and camping rules are set separately here. The nearest alternative is Morrison Lake, 1.2 km out. What applies at Dumaresq Lake may have changed since it was mapped.
