Low, flat cloud sitting over the water, with light air out of the ESE and steady pressure. Most of the action on Dugas Lake should come off the shaded margin through bright spells. Block out the hours from the day. Cover water early, then settle where the signs are. Cooling water has fish active and on the move.

Dugas Lake lies in Digby County, in Nova Scotia. The water sits 109 metres up. At about 34 hectares, a day is enough to walk the shoreline properly. The bank runs about 3.0 km all the way round, so one visit can cover most of it. Digby at 23 km is the nearest place to stop. Further out sit Yarmouth (71 km) and Middleton (80 km). Rules here are straightforward: one set of provincial rules.
Depth figures are not published for this one. Bays and points beat straight shoreline every time on water like this. Still water like this holds fish on the edges rather than out in the open. Digby County records list alewife, Atlantic salmon and American shad among the fish reported. Several of these carry legal protection or closed seasons; the rulebook comes before the rod. Dugas Lake gives up its fish to patience rather than distance.
The year swings from about -5°C in January to roughly 18°C in July. Cold winters and warm summers give a wide working range. Winter locks it down, and mid April brings it back. Expect the water usable from around mid April until roughly mid December. Right after break-up, and again as the nights sharpen, is when to go. That is the shape of the year on Dugas Lake.
Public sources are silent on who controls the bank. No dam controls it, and the level follows the season. Public mapping records no formal access here, so plan for a walk and soft ground. For the pike, wire up and throw larger lures along the weed edges. Check whether a boat is allowed before you tow one. Some ground is open by custom rather than by right, so tread carefully. If the gate is shut, Duck Lake at 2 km is the nearest alternative. Rules at Dugas Lake are worth checking on the day.
