Cloud from horizon to horizon today, with light air out of the SW with a settled glass. Whatever swims in Dryhill Lake should be near structure within a cast of the bank. Bank on the middle of the day and treat the rest as bonus. Give the likely spots time before moving. Autumn rewards covering water while the fish roam.

Dryhill Lake sits within Halifax Regional Municipality in Nova Scotia. It stands 82 metres above sea level. It measures about 11 hectares, which is a comfortable size for bank fishing. Shoreline comes to about 2.1 km, small enough to learn in a day. Brookside lies 4.1 km from the water. For a city, Halifax is 13 km off. It sits well inside the county, so one set of rules covers it.
The records we hold are silent on depth, so plan to find it yourself. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. Weed, then depth: that is the order to fish a water of this kind. County-wide records name brook trout, alewife, rainbow smelt, American eel and Atlantic salmon. Some of the species recorded here are protected or tightly regulated, so check what may be targeted before you fish. Anyone new to Dryhill Lake should walk it once before setting up.
August runs about 18°C on average, January about -5°C. The year splits cleanly: hard water, then open water. Expect a solid lid for months and a thaw around mid April. The open-water window runs from around mid April to about late December in an average year. Just after the ice goes and just before it returns, the fishing lifts. The season on Dryhill Lake follows the weather closely.
There is no clear statement anywhere on who can fish it. No dam controls it, and the level follows the season. There is no mapped parking or launch close by, which usually means walking in. Trout here take small spinners, spoons and, where fly water allows, a nymph or dry. Look for a notice board at the entrance. Night access is frequently treated as a separate matter. Little Cranberry Lake sits 0.5 km off and takes the overflow. Check the position at Dryhill Lake before loading the car.
