Flat light and a covered sky today, with just enough SW wind to ripple the surface and no real change in pressure. On Darlings Lake, work the first drop-off and weed lines first. Block out the hours from morning through afternoon. Cover water early, then settle where the signs are.

Within Yarmouth County, Nova Scotia, you have Darlings Lake. The shore lies 2.8 km out. At some 1.31 sq km it is far too large to cover on foot in a day. The margin runs to about 11 km in total. A border sits close enough to be relevant to the paperwork.
Without a survey to go on, judge depth from how the bank falls away. The tide is the timetable on this water; two hours either side of the change usually fish hardest. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. Records held for Yarmouth County cover coalfish, American eel and Atlantic cod. Anyone new to Darlings Lake should walk it once before setting up.
The range across the year is -4°C to 17°C. The season stretches long at both ends here. Hard water here is never dependable, so check for yourself before stepping out. March through May is the strongest run, with October and November a second stretch. Darlings Lake fishes to that pattern most years.
Whether the bank is open is not something our records settle. Parking is mapped about 590 m from the bank. A platform or pier sits within 520 m. You can camp 640 m off, which suits an early start. Facilities include toilets around 750 m from here. Check locally before you travel, because a wasted drive is a long one. Signs go up and come down, so check on the day. Allens Lake sits 2 km off and takes the overflow. Check the position on Darlings Lake before loading the car.
