A grey, even sky over the water, with light air out of the W and pressure sitting still. The fish at Cuddihy Lake are likely to sit near reed fringes and open pockets. Quiet conditions all day, with the evening marginally better. Scale down and fish slowly. The autumn feed-up is on; baitfish areas are the key.

This water sits in Guysborough County, Nova Scotia. The shore lies 20 km out. At about 18 hectares, a day is enough to walk the shoreline properly. Roughly 2.3 km of bank means you can walk to a fresh area when one goes quiet. The nearest place of any size is Antigonish, 29 km away. Port Hawkesbury follows at 34 km, then Princeville at 49 km. Local rules may differ a few miles either side of here.
We hold no depth figure for this one. Weed, then depth: that is the order to fish a water of this kind. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. County-wide records name alewife, American eel, brook trout and Atlantic salmon. Protected fish appear in the records for this area, so treat the list as information, not an invitation. At Cuddihy Lake the water rewards a slow, careful approach.
Average temperature peaks around 18°C in August and bottoms out near -7°C in February. A full turn of seasons, with the strongest sport on either side of summer. Break-up comes around late April, and the run that follows is short and strong. Ice clears near late April and comes back about mid December in a typical year. June through September is the settled part of the year, with the shoulders busier for fish. It holds true on Cuddihy Lake more years than not.
Our records carry no access rule either way. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. There is no recorded infrastructure here; expect to find your own way in. Trout here take small spinners, spoons and, where fly water allows, a nymph or dry. Some banks are open only from a marked point. Fishing rules and camping rules are set separately here. Failing this one, try Harper Pond, 1.6 km away. For Cuddihy Lake, the notice at the access point is the final word.
