Flat light and a covered sky today, with a soft SE wind and no real change in pressure. Most of the action on Clump Lake should come off points where shallow meets deep. A broad window opens from the day. Commit to the pattern once the first fish shows. The season of moving fish: stay mobile and watch for bait.

Clump Lake falls in Halifax Regional Municipality, part of Nova Scotia. The coast is 18 km away. Small at around 7 hectares: two anglers spread out cover most of it. 14 km away sits Lake Echo, the nearest town. Porters Lake lies 14 km off, Enfield another 15 km. Alternatives close at hand: 0.7 km out stands Y Lake, Rocky Lake some 1 km off, 1.4 km out stands Horseshoe Lake, Commissary Meadow Lake some 2 km off and 2.2 km out stands Dark Lake. It lies deep inside the county rather than near an edge.
Depth is unmeasured here, so let the shoreline guide you. Bays and points beat straight shoreline every time on water like this. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. Reported across Halifax Regional Municipality: brook trout, alewife, rainbow smelt, American eel and Atlantic salmon. Some of the species recorded here are protected or tightly regulated, so check what may be targeted before you fish. Clump Lake gives up its fish to patience rather than distance.
Temperature averages peak at 18°C in August and bottom out at -6°C in January. The middle months are generous; the ends are demanding. Ice is part of the season here, ending near mid April. In an average year the thaw lands around mid April and the freeze near mid December. Fishing peaks soon after break-up and again before the cold returns. Expect Clump Lake to follow that timing.
Nothing we hold confirms whether access is permitted. No car park, ramp or path is recorded within easy reach of the shore. For the trout, small spinners and a box of nymphs cover both approaches. Look for a notice board at the entrance. Where tickets apply, they are sold in the nearest town rather than on the bank. Failing this one, try Y Lake, 0.7 km away. For Clump Lake in particular, ask before you travel.
