Heavy overcast holding through the day, with an easy breeze from the E with the barometer flat. Activity on Bluff Lake should centre on points where shallow meets deep. The day holds up well from the day. Work the productive water thoroughly. Autumn fish are feeding up and less fussy than in summer.

Set in Cape Breton County, Bluff Lake is a Nova Scotia water. Elevation runs to 2 metres. At roughly 6 hectares, the whole thing is within casting reach of a single walk. It is low-lying compared with other Nova Scotia water we list. The town to know is Louisbourg, 17 km out. Marion Bridge lies 22 km off, Albert Bridge another 25 km. It sits well inside the county, so one set of rules covers it.
There is no recorded depth, so work from what you can see. Being tidal, the water moves twice a day, and the fishing moves with it. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. Across Cape Breton County, recorded fish include striped bass, Atlantic salmon and Atlantic cod. At least one recorded species is protected in parts of its range; read the local rules before targeting anything. At Bluff Lake light and wind decide more than tackle does.
Climate normals give 18°C for August and -5°C for February. A hard winter is normal, and the thaw brings a strong few weeks. The lid arrives early and lasts until roughly late April. Ice usually gives way near late April, and forms again about late December. The open run goes from the thaw to the freeze, and April through October covers most of it. Keep it in mind when planning a trip to Bluff Lake.
The rules here are undocumented as far as public sources go. There is no recorded infrastructure here; expect to find your own way in. Bass water: a Texas-rigged worm near cover, a spinnerbait when you need to cover ground. A landowner's word beats anything printed elsewhere. Some stretches are reserved and marked as such on the ground. If the gate is shut, Hardys Lake at 1.5 km is the nearest alternative. Confirm access to Bluff Lake locally before you travel.
