An even grey lid over the water, with an easy breeze from the SE with a settled glass. Start the search at Big Marshall Lake along inflow corners and shaded margins. The useful hours run afternoon into evening. Trust the forecast and stay out through the window. Fish follow the bait in autumn, so find one to find the other.

Big Marshall Lake lies within the bounds of Annapolis County, Nova Scotia. It sits 28 km in from the sea. It measures about 13 hectares, which is a comfortable size for bank fishing. The bank runs about 2.5 km all the way round, so one visit can cover most of it. It sits higher than most water we list in Nova Scotia. Head to Greenwood, 16 km away, for anything you forgot. For a city, Dartmouth is 105 km off. Rules can differ a short way off, since the county line is near.
Depth here is unknown, so count the lead down before committing. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. This is a lake, so the margins and the first drop matter most. Survey and observation records for Annapolis County include alewife, Atlantic salmon, chain pickerel and yellow perch. Several of these carry legal protection or closed seasons; the rulebook comes before the rod. Fish Big Marshall Lake where the bottom changes rather than where it looks deep.
The year swings from about -6°C in January to roughly 18°C in July. A solid cap is the normal state through winter. The open season starts with the thaw, near enough mid April. Climate averages put the opening at about mid April and the closing near mid December. May into June fishes hardest, and September gives a second good stretch before the lid returns. Big Marshall Lake fishes to that pattern most years.
Whether the bank is open is not something our records settle. It formed naturally, so levels move with rainfall rather than with a gate. No built facilities appear in mapping around this water. A wire trace and a big bright lure handle the pike; deep water asks for a heavier spoon. Read any posted signs at the access point rather than assuming. Some ground is open by custom rather than by right, so tread carefully. Little Marshall Lake, 1.3 km away, makes the obvious fallback. For Big Marshall Lake in particular, ask before you travel.
