Overcast skies today, with just enough ESE wind to ripple the surface and steady pressure. Give shallow cover and weed edges the first hour at Abbiecombec Lake. Block out the hours from the day. Cover water early, then settle where the signs are. Autumn fish are feeding up and less fussy than in summer.

Out in Halifax Regional Municipality, Nova Scotia, sits Abbiecombec Lake. The coast is 2.5 km away. Roughly 1.47 sq km of surface: treat each bay as a water in its own right. The edge covers about 9.6 km, enough to hold several distinct areas. Size puts it in the front rank of our Halifax Regional Municipality list. Musquodoboit Harbour sits 15 km from here and is the nearest stop. Then Porters Lake, 27 km, and Lake Echo, 33 km. It sits well inside its county, with no border complications.
Depth here is unknown, so count the lead down before committing. Weed, then depth: that is the order to fish a water of this kind. Bays and points beat straight shoreline every time on water like this. Reported across Halifax Regional Municipality: Atlantic cod, coalfish, brook trout and alewife. At least one recorded species is protected in parts of its range; read the local rules before targeting anything. On Abbiecombec Lake the obvious spot is not always the productive one.
Temperature averages peak at 18°C in August and bottom out at -5°C in February. Winter puts a hard lid on this one. Hard cover is dependable here; it goes around mid April. Ice usually gives way near mid April, and forms again about late December. Just after the ice goes and just before it returns, the fishing lifts. Expect Abbiecombec Lake to follow that timing.
Who may fish here is not settled in anything we hold. Records list it as a natural water body rather than an impoundment. Fishing from a pier is possible 900 m away. Trout here take small spinners, spoons and, where fly water allows, a nymph or dry. Gates get locked out of season on water like this. Night access is frequently treated as a separate matter. Gossard Lake at 1.3 km is the sensible second choice. None of that is settled for Abbiecombec Lake in what we hold.
