Heavy overcast holding through the day, with a whisper of wind from the E and no real change in pressure. Activity on Wolverine Lake should centre on windblown banks where food collects. A tough forecast; the evening offers the only real chance. Save the long walk for a better forecast. The cold will pin fish to deeper, stable water.

Wolverine Lake stands in North Slave Region, Northwest Territories. What surrounds it is dry rangeland. This is big water, about 24.57 sq km, and in a wind it behaves like a small sea. Yellowknife lies 174 km from the water. Behchokǫ̀ is 240 km away, with Hay River at 352 km. It sits well inside the county, so one set of rules covers it.
Our records carry no depth, so judge it from the bank. A soft bed grows weed late into autumn, which keeps fish shallow. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. Records held for North Slave Region cover Arctic grayling, lake trout and slimy sculpin. County records show what lives in the area; the local agency holds the water-by-water list. Read Wolverine Lake for ten minutes before the first cast goes out.
Expect July to average close to 14°C, with January the cold end at about -28°C. The fishing year opens late and shuts early. Winter fishing happens on the ice here, with open water back around early June. Break-up near early June, freeze-up near mid October: that is the shape of an average year. The strongest runs come at either end of the open season. Wolverine Lake fishes to that pattern most years.
No public source sets out the position on this bank. We find no slipway, car park or made path within a short radius, so treat access as rough. Trout here take small spinners, spoons and, where fly water allows, a nymph or dry. Rules for this water may differ from the county norm. Close seasons apply to some species and not others. Lac Nez Croche at 6.1 km is the sensible second choice. None of that is settled for Wolverine Lake in what we hold.
