No direct sun expected today, with a gentle ripple from the SE with the glass holding level. Give the margins and the shelf beyond them the first hour at Tom Lake. The useful hours run the day. Trust the forecast and stay out through the window. Bundle up; the fishing will be slow but not impossible.

North Slave Region in Northwest Territories is where Tom Lake sits. The bank is 214 metres above sea level. With some 31 hectares of water, there is room for a boat but no need of one. It is a small entry by North Slave Region standards. Yellowknife lies 12 km from the water. After that come Behchokǫ̀ at 99 km and Hay River at 209 km. Rules here are straightforward: one set of provincial rules.
We hold no survey for this water; read the slope of the shoreline instead. Bays and points beat straight shoreline every time on water like this. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. North Slave Region records list Arctic grayling, lake trout and slimy sculpin among the fish reported. Records at county level tell you what is around, not what is stocked here. On Tom Lake that means starting tight and working out.
Long-run averages give July about 16°C and January about -26°C. The window is narrow, and fish feed hard while it lasts. Count the season from break-up, usually late May. Break-up sits around late May on average, with the water closing again about late October. The first weeks of open water and the last are the ones to plan for. Tom Lake runs to its own calendar within the local pattern.
No public source sets out the position on this bank. Public mapping marks it as seasonal water rather than permanent. Overnight stays are possible about 650 m out, where camping is mapped. Trout here take small spinners, spoons and, where fly water allows, a nymph or dry. Where the road in crosses private land, ask first. Some ground is open by custom rather than by right, so tread carefully. The nearest alternative is Methane Lake, 5.3 km out. None of that is settled for Tom Lake in what we hold.
