No direct sun expected today, with just enough S wind to ripple the surface with the glass holding level. Start the search at Taylor Lake along sheltered bays and points. Little to get excited about, though the night holds a sliver of promise. Lower the pace and stay patient. Cold hands, careful casts: precision is everything today.

Look for Taylor Lake in the South Slave Region part of Northwest Territories. Everything around it is dry rangeland. At roughly 44.58 sq km it ranks among the larger waters in the region. The bank runs about 130 km in total, split between open shore and sheltered corners. For a base, Yellowknife sits 321 km out. For a city, Edmonton is 1170 km off. No boundary runs near, so the local rules hold throughout.
Nothing we hold settles how deep this runs. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. A soft bed grows weed late into autumn, which keeps fish shallow. Records held for South Slave Region cover Arctic grayling, lake trout, Arctic charr and slimy sculpin. County records show what lives in the area; the local agency holds the water-by-water list. Taylor Lake gives up more to patience than to distance.
The year swings from about -29°C in January to roughly 13°C in July. Winter runs most of the calendar, and everything worth doing happens in the gap. Break-up comes around early June, and the run that follows is short and strong. Ice clears near early June and comes back about mid October in a typical year. Late spring and early autumn carry the year between them. Taylor Lake fishes to that pattern most years.
Nothing in our records says who may fish here. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. No made access appears within a short radius, so plan to park on a verge and walk. Trout here take small spinners, spoons and, where fly water allows, a nymph or dry. Ask in the nearest town if you are unsure. Some stretches are reserved and marked as such on the ground. Should this one be busy, Kirk Lake is 20 km off. Check the position at Taylor Lake before loading the car.
