A grey, even sky over the water, with a helpful ripple pushed from the NE and the barometer holding steady. On Kway Cha Lake, work the shallows early and the drop later first. Numbers are low everywhere; the night is the pick of them. Scale down and fish slowly. Bundle up; the fishing will be slow but not impossible.

Kway Cha Lake is one of the North Slave Region listings for Northwest Territories. Elevation runs to 287 metres. It covers about 25.47 sq km, which means weather matters as much as tactics. Around 73 km of margin, so directions matter more than a general plan. For a base, Kugluktuk sits 307 km out. Behchokǫ̀ lies 317 km off, Norman Wells another 384 km. One jurisdiction covers this water end to end.
There is no recorded depth, so work from what you can see. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. Records held for North Slave Region cover Arctic grayling, lake trout and slimy sculpin. The county list is broader than any single water. On Kway Cha Lake a short move beats a long cast.
Climate normals give 14°C for July and -28°C for January. The season is measured in weeks rather than months. The lid arrives early and lasts until roughly late May. Ice usually gives way near late May, and forms again about mid October. The weeks after the thaw and the ones before the freeze are the strongest. Kway Cha Lake fishes to that pattern most years.
The access position is unclear from public sources. No dam controls it, and the level follows the season. We find no slipway, car park or made path within a short radius, so treat access as rough. Trout here take small spinners, spoons and, where fly water allows, a nymph or dry. Sort the permit out before you load the car. Signs go up and come down, so check on the day. Should this one be busy, Yanik Lake is 8.4 km off. None of that is settled for Kway Cha Lake in what we hold.
