A grey, even sky over the water, with light air out of the WNW with a settled glass. Most of the action on Grace Lake should come off the shaded margin through bright spells. The forecast is against you; the morning is the least bad option. Treat it as a scouting trip with a rod in hand.

Look for Grace Lake in North Slave Region, Northwest Territories. The surface lies 229 metres up. Roughly 3.93 sq km of surface: treat each bay as a water in its own right. Around 17 km of bank, which is a long day on foot. Head to Yellowknife, 99 km away, for anything you forgot. Behchokǫ̀ is 192 km and Hay River 228 km. Rules here are straightforward: one set of provincial rules.
No chart reached our records; the first cast is your sounding. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. Fish documented in North Slave Region include Arctic grayling, lake trout and slimy sculpin. Those are county-wide records, so not every one of them will be in this water. Grace Lake gives up its fish to patience rather than distance.
The seasonal spread runs -26°C to 16°C. Open water arrives late and leaves early, which concentrates the fishing. The freeze runs deep into the year, with break-up near late May. The lid tends to go about late May and return around late October. Fishing peaks soon after break-up and again before the cold returns. Expect Grace Lake to follow that timing.
Whether you may fish here is not something records settle. No dam controls it, and the level follows the season. Mapping is blank for access, so scout the approach before committing the car. For the trout, small spinners and a box of nymphs cover both approaches. Where access is informal, keep it that way by behaving. Check whether bait restrictions apply before you buy any. If the gate is shut, Faulkner Lake at 15 km is the nearest alternative. Confirm access to Grace Lake locally before you travel.
