Snow in the air today, with a persistent wind from the NE with the barometer flat. The productive water at Drumlin Lake will be around the seam between weed and open water. A slow day overall; the evening is the best of a quiet lot. Lower the pace and stay patient. Biting air and slow fish: small baits, long pauses.

Drumlin Lake belongs to North Slave Region, Northwest Territories. The surroundings are dry rangeland. Surface area runs to some 36.75 sq km, so a boat and a plan are both worth having. The outline measures near 141 km, so a boat opens up water the bank never reaches. By elevation it is in the upper part of our Northwest Territories listings. Some 240 km away sits Behchokǫ̀, the nearest settlement. Then Yellowknife, 263 km, and Kugluktuk, 337 km. The nearest boundary is a fair way off.
No published figure covers depth, so learn it as you fish. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. Bays and points beat straight shoreline every time on water like this. County-wide records name Arctic grayling, lake trout and slimy sculpin. Records at this level tell you what is in the area. Drumlin Lake responds to conditions more than to tactics.
Expect July to average close to 13°C, with January the cold end at about -29°C. Little of the calendar is open water, so timing counts for everything. After early June the shallows warm and the fish move up. Open water usually runs from early June until about mid October. The strongest runs come at either end of the open season. Time your trip to Drumlin Lake by conditions rather than dates.
Ownership and access are not documented in what we hold. Records list it as a natural water body rather than an impoundment. No slipway, car park or made path shows up nearby in mapping, so treat access as rough. Trout here take small spinners, spoons and, where fly water allows, a nymph or dry. Rules differ from one water to the next round here. Signs go up and come down, so check on the day. Should this one be busy, Whitewolf Lake is 22 km off. Check the position on Drumlin Lake before loading the car.
