Damp, showery conditions today, with mild air moving in from the WNW and pressure sitting still. On South Pond, work whatever cover the water offers first. Everything points to the middle of the day. Give the likely spots time before moving. The autumn feed-up is on; baitfish areas are the key.

South Pond sits in King's Point, out in Newfoundland and Labrador. Salt water lies 5.4 km off. Surface area runs to roughly 9.19 sq km, so plan for one area rather than the whole. With 17 km or so of shoreline, boat anglers cover ground the bank cannot. By elevation it sits in the lower part of our Newfoundland and Labrador listings. For a base, Springdale sits 13 km out. The nearest city of size is St. John's, 321 km away. The county line is nowhere near, so one local authority covers the water.
Without a survey to go on, judge depth from how the bank falls away. This is tidal water: the state of the tide decides where fish sit, so plan the session around it. A soft bed grows weed late into autumn, which keeps fish shallow. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. Species logged across King's Point include Atlantic salmon, Atlantic cod, bull-rout, haddock and polar cod. On South Pond the obvious spot is not always the productive one.
Averages move between -9°C in February and 16°C in July. A solid cap is the normal state through winter. Ice-out usually falls in late April, and the weeks after it fish hardest. The lid tends to go about late April and return around early December. The open run goes from the thaw to the freeze, and April through October covers most of it. It sets the rhythm of the year at South Pond.
Ownership and access are not documented in what we hold. Public mapping records no formal access here, so plan for a walk and soft ground. For salmon, swing spoons or flies through the moving water and mind the local method rules. Some banks are open only from a marked point. Some ground is open by custom rather than by right, so tread carefully. West Pond, 7.5 km away, makes the obvious fallback. Nothing on South Pond should be assumed from this page alone.
