An even grey lid over the water, with a gentle ripple from the S and pressure going nowhere. Whatever swims in Simmons Pond should be near the warm end of the pond. The day holds up well from the day. Work the productive water thoroughly. The season of moving fish: stay mobile and watch for bait.

Night
The Old Perlican entry here is Simmons Pond, in Newfoundland and Labrador. The shore lies 4.5 km out. At 7 hectares it is the sort of place you fish for an evening rather than a day. Supplies mean a trip to Victoria, 29 km off. It is 56 km to St. John's, the nearest city. Within a short run: Five Mile Pond (1.7 km), Lance Cove Pond 2 km off, Little Stag Pond (2.7 km), Rocky Pond 2.9 km off and Sibleys Cove Small Pond (3.1 km). One jurisdiction covers this water end to end.
Depth here is unknown, so count the lead down before committing. A soft bed grows weed late into autumn, which keeps fish shallow. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. Species logged across Old Perlican include bull-rout and longhorn sculpin. These are county-wide records, so not all of them will be in this water. Read Simmons Pond for ten minutes before the first cast goes out.
Expect August to average close to 16°C, with February the cold end at about -6°C. Cold locks it up for a good stretch each year. Expect a solid lid for months and a thaw around late April. From about late April to around mid December, expect open water on the long-run figures. May into June fishes hardest, and September gives a second good stretch before the lid returns. Time your trip to Simmons Pond by conditions rather than dates.
Whether you may fish here is not something records settle. Mapping shows no built access close by; expect to walk in from wherever you can leave the car. A light spinning outfit with a small box of lures and some bait covers most of what swims here. Sort the permit out before you load the car. Night access is frequently treated as a separate matter. Five Mile Pond at 1.7 km is the sensible second choice. Signs at Simmons Pond carry more weight than any list.
