Overcast skies today, with mild air moving in from the S and no real change in pressure. The water to cover at Nault Lake is points where shallow meets deep. The forecast is against you; the night is the least bad option. One good spot fished well beats five fished quickly. Shortening days concentrate the feeding into fewer hours.

Nault Lake is a Labrador City water, Newfoundland and Labrador side. This is boreal forest ground. At 3.47 sq km this is proper open water rather than a pond. By elevation it is in the upper part of our Newfoundland and Labrador listings. The nearest place of any size is Labrador City, 52 km away. Beyond it, Wabush at 55 km and Fermont at 72 km. There is no boundary nearby to worry about.
No depth figure has reached our records, which makes a plummet useful. Bays and points beat straight shoreline every time on water like this. Weed, then depth: that is the order to fish a water of this kind. Across Labrador City, recorded fish include brook trout, northern pike, Atlantic salmon, lake whitefish and longnose sucker. Several of these carry legal protection or closed seasons; the rulebook comes before the rod. At Nault Lake light and wind decide more than tackle does.
July runs about 13°C on average, January about -23°C. Open water is the exception rather than the rule here. Hard cover is dependable here; it goes around late May. Climate figures give an open season running late May to late October. Fishing peaks soon after break-up and again before the cold returns. Expect Nault Lake to follow that timing.
We hold no note on access for this one. There is no recorded infrastructure here; expect to find your own way in. For the trout, small spinners and a box of nymphs cover both approaches. A landowner's word beats anything printed elsewhere. Barbless rules turn up on managed water more often than not. Pegrum Lake sits 5.8 km off and takes the overflow.
