A closed sky with even light today, with a busy W wind on the open water with a settled glass. On Middle Pond, work the shaded bank through the bright hours first. Plan around the stretch from night into morning. Change depth before you change anything else. The autumn feed-up is on; baitfish areas are the key.

Look for Middle Pond in the Old Perlican part of Newfoundland and Labrador. The surface lies 96 metres up. Surface area runs to about 3 hectares — small enough to read in one session. Our Old Perlican list holds plenty of bigger water. Victoria is the closest place, 37 km off. Pouch Cove follows at 37 km, then Carbonear at 40 km. A border sits close enough to be relevant to the paperwork.
No chart reached our records; the first cast is your sounding. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. Bays and points beat straight shoreline every time on water like this. Species logged across Old Perlican include Atlantic cod, polar cod, capelin and bull-rout. Records at this level tell you what is in the area. Middle Pond gives up its fish to patience rather than distance.
The year swings from about -6°C in February to roughly 16°C in August. Cold locks it up for a good stretch each year. The lid usually sets by midwinter and gives way around late April. The season between ice runs from about late April to mid December. May into June fishes hardest, and September gives a second good stretch before the lid returns. At Middle Pond the season follows that pattern closely.
Access is not recorded for this water. No made access appears within a short radius, so plan to park on a verge and walk. One rod, a handful of hooks and floats, and a few small lures are enough for this water. Where a permit is needed, the nearest town usually sells it. Rules for boats are stricter than rules for the bank in many places. The nearest alternative is Bell Pond, 0.5 km out. None of that is settled for Middle Pond in what we hold.
